Welcome toYear 5! I hope you have all had a good summer holiday and are ready to come back to school!
Our topic will start with rivers, where we will look at how they are formed and the role they play in the water cycle.
In English, we will be looking at King Kong. We will use this quality text to act as inspiration for many forms of writing: Diaries, letters, newspapers and discussions. We will look at how characters change over time and how we can incorporate descriptive language in our work.
Maths will be focussed around Number place value, and addition and subtraction. We will be looking at being able to read and write numbers to a million, as well as rounding numbers to the nearest 10, 100, 1000, 10,000 and 100,000. We will then move onto formal methods of addition and subtraction.
Homework will be given out every Monday. This is due in the following Monday.
P.E days will be Tuesday and Wednesday.. Please can you bring in a suitable P.E kit for both inside and outside consisting of a white t-shirt and black/navy blue shorts. Children must have suitable footwear.
I am eager to start a brand new year at Woodcroft and continue along the learning journey here at Woodcroft!
