Spring Term

What a fantastic start we have had in Japan class to the New Year and new term.
The homework projects linked to the topic of Eygpt were amazing and I am really excited about the planets projects that the children are talking about.

We had a fantastic trip last week to the Dockyard. The children had so many workshops and activities, these have extended their knowledge about the planets. I have a feeling some may be asking for telescopes for birthdays this year. Also as is always the case when Woodcroft Primary School children are out on a trip, their behaviour was superb, they really are a credit to you all and excellent ambassadors for the school. In fact one teacher commented to me about how brilliantly behaved the class were. Always good to hear.

I will be posting some photographs from the day later.

After half term Year 5 will be going swimming at Waterlooville Leisure Centre - more details will follow.

Once again, myself, Mrs Towner, Mr Eyre and Mr. Langdon would like to thank you all for your continued support.

Kind regards
Mrs. Coe

Happy New Year!

Welcome to 2014! All the staff in Year 5 hope you all had a lovely Christmas and New Year and are looking forward to starting back in the class of Japan.
This half term we will be finding out all about the Planets in our solar system as well as an exciting new science topic focussed on Evolution!
We also have Mr. Langdon joining us for the next 10 weeks, he is very excited to be with the class and is looking forward to teaching them lots of new ICT skills.
Mr Eyre will continue to take the class each Tuesday.

The next half terms homework project is a choice between a project linked to the planets or recycling. So far this year we have had some outstanding homework projects, keep up the great work.

We are all looking forward to seeing you all back on the 7th January 2014.

Year 5 Update!

On Wednesday 11th December Years 4, 5 and 6 will be presenting their fabulous Singing Concert. At this event there will also by the opportunity to buy some delicious cakes and some amazing Origami Instructions beautifully written by the children of Japan class. A lovely idea for an unusual gift. There will also be some stunning Christmas decorations for sale made by the Class of Japan. The cakes, origami and decorations will be on sale for one day only, just before the start of the concert and after the concert has finished.
So don't miss the chance to buy a truely original gift!

Welcome to Year 5!
Japan Class

Dear Parents/Carers,

The Year 5 team would like to say thank you so much for the support you have given to your children with their homework projects about Japan. They really were absolutely stunning. We had fantastic Japanese Gardens, Power Point Presentations full of fascinating facts, leaflets, some incredible art work and even a Sumo Wrestler. On Friday 8th November the class had a chance to show off all their work to the rest of the school, staff and a governor. All who visited Japan were impressed at the amount the children had learned about Japan. The class then enjoyed their well earned reward Homework Party in the afternoon. (Pictures to follow).

This half term has also started with a bang! We had an incredible visit from Creative Histories. The class experienced role play, handling ancient Eygptian artifacts, played Egyptian games, dressed up, were history detectives, made mummies and amulets, learned about food and traditions, had a go at hieroglyphics and other art work. All in one day! This has truely inspired them to learn more about Egypt and they are all talking excitedly about their next projects. They may not have left Woodcroft but they were transported to Ancient Egypt!

The Egypt homework is due in by the 11th December.

Your continued support if very much appreciated. This term the focus is on lerning their times tables and related division facts. Please help them to learn and improve these valuable life long skills. Each week we give out a Maths Medal for the pupil or pupils taht have improved their scores by the most. The aim is by the end of the year to have each child confident in each of the tables and their related division facts.

Please can I remind everyone that PE days are Wednesday and Thursday and that earrings need to be removed. We are no longer allowed to cover them with tape.

Once again tahnk you all for the amazing support for the homework projects.

The Year 5 team are looking forward to an exciting year of learning together!

Remember C - O - E stands for Class Of Excellence!
