Welcome back to your last half term in Year 3!
Our topic this half term will be The Romans. We will look at The Roman Army and the impact they had on Britain especially on architecture and what life was like in Roman times. We may even become Romans for the day.
In English our class book is ‘The Twits by Roald Dahl. We will have lots of different writing opportunities such as; play scripts, leaflets, diary entries, newspaper reports and creating alternative endings to the story. We will continue to learn our Year 3 spelling words as it is really important we know these before the end of the year.
In maths, we will be working on recognising and finding non-unit fractions then we will apply our addition and subtraction skills. After, we will focus on 3D shapes, angles, perpendicular and parallel lines. Following shape, we will return to time focusing on telling the time to the nearest minute.
We will be using the Beebots and Probots in ICT to learn how to programme and debug. In RE we will learn about different creation stories.
Our PE day is Thursday. Please make sure that your child has their P.E. kit and suitable shoes in school at all times and that earrings are removed.
Homework will continue to be set on Friday and due in the following week. Please read and practice spellings as much as you can.
I hope you had a lovely Easter and didn't eat too many eggs.
This half term our topic is going to be based around myths. In English we will be reading "Tell me a dragon" by Jackie Morris. This will give us lots of opportunities for non-fiction writing and to continue with our descriptive writing. In Maths we will be recapping place value and then use this to help us with addition and subtraction. We will be focusing on adding and subtracting amounts of money. Followed by some work on multiplying and dividing larger numbers.
In Science we are going to be learning about living things, food chains and habitats. Keep your eyes out on your way to and from school and see if you can find any animals. We will be continuing with Geography, where we will be learning about volcanoes. Art and DT will link to English as we will be creating our own dragons!
PE days will be on Monday and Friday. Please make sure PE kits are in for both lessons and are suitable for indoor and outdoor lessons.
Homework will still be set on Friday and due in the following week. Remember there are rewards for bringing in completed homework and reading logs.
Thank you for all coming in wearing your pyjamas and bringing in a donation on Friday. We were all super comfy in our PJs. So far we have raised £17.00.
Another big thank you to a local company 'Barry's Reefing and Rigging' for kindly making a donation towards our trip. We really appreciate it!
This week we are holding a cake sale at playtime. Cakes will range from 10p - 50p.
Welcome back to Spring 2.
I hope you have enjoyed your break!
In Year 3 our topic will be chocolate. Our main text will be 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' by Roald Dahl.
This will give us the opportunity to explore using vivid language in our writing. We will be describing events, characters and settings. Writing letters and news reports. There will also be the opportunity to interview a worker from a sweet factory. This will all link in when we write a story from an Oompa Loompa's point of view.
In Maths we are looking at angles with a focus on right angles, obtuse angles and acute angles. Then we will look at measurement (length, capacity and weight) and time. Please encourage children to tell the time at home as this will really help them. For the rest of the term we will return to addition and subtraction.
In the wider curriculum we will follow the theme of chocolate. In Geography we will be learning about the cocoa bean, where it comes from and how chocolate is made.
I'm sure we're going to have a lot of fun with this topic.
