Welcome back to Spring 2.
I hope you have enjoyed your break!
In Year 3 our topic will be chocolate. Our main text will be 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' by Roald Dahl.
This will give us the opportunity to explore using vivid language in our writing. We will also be learning about adverbials, the possessive apostrophe and the perfect present tense. This will all link together when we write a story from an Oompa Loompa's point of view.
In Maths we are learning about tenths and unit fractions. Then we will be learning about angles with a focus on right angles, obtuse angles and acute angles. After that, we will look at measurement (length, capacity and weight) and time. Please encourage children to tell the time at home as this will really help them. For the rest of the term we will return to addition and subtraction.
In the wider curriculum we will follow the theme of chocolate. In Geography we will be learning about the cocoa bean, where it comes from. In Design Technology we will be looking at how chocolate is made and then making our own chocolate.
I'm sure we're going to have a lot of fun with this topic.
Homework will continue to be given out in the first week of term. The homework grid provides a range of tasks for children to do at home that are related to our topic. Please make sure at least 1 task is handed in on each of the due dates.
Weekly spellings will also be set and sent home on a Friday to practice throughout the week.
Welcome back and Happy New Year!
I hope you had a great Christmas. We can't wait to hear all about it.
Last term we did so much super work, lets carry that on this term!
We have an exciting term ahead and lots of new learning to get started on.
English - Our book focus will be on Leon and the place between.
Maths - Place value, addition and subtraction, multiplication and division (3's, 4's and then 8's)
Science - Electricity
History - The Iron Age
RE - Holi
DT - Circuits for moving objects
PE - Dance
Homework will be sent out on a grid at the start of term and one piece is due every Friday. This is in addition to weekly spellings and home reading. Reading logs will be checked every Friday so please make sure you have your reading log and book in school everyday. You may even win a prize for bringing it in regularly.
PE days are Monday and Tuesday.
Please make sure you have the correct PE kit for indoor and outdoor PE.
Earrings must be removed.
Welcome back! I hope you are all ready for a very interesting half term where we will be going back in time!
This half term our main focus will be on the Stone Age, Iron Age and Bronze Age. In English our text will be Stone Age Boy. This will give us opportunities to develop our writing and create our own story. We will then be using the text How to wash a woolly mammoth to support our instructional writing.
We also have our trip to Butser Ancient Farm where we will go back in history, make jewellery, make fences using wattling, and become archaeologists!
In Maths we will start with multiplication and division – our aim is to know our 3 and 4 times tables. This will then link to fractions, measurement and geometry later in the term.
Our PE days are Mondays and Thursdays. Please make sure you have your PE kit for both days.
There will be homework set every week. Like last term it will be set on Friday and due in the following Friday.
In addition to this please continue to read at home with your child and record when they have read in their reading log. Lets see how many stamps, certificates, bookmarks and free books China class can earn this term.
As always if you have any questions feel free to come and talk to me.
Welcome to Year 3. I hope you have had a good summer and are refreshed and ready to learn.
This year your teachers will be Miss Jones and Miss Privett.
This term our topic will be about animals. In Geography we will be learning about the UK.
In English we will be reading Zoo by Anthony Browne. This will provide us with lots of fantastic writing opportunities.
In Maths we will be looking at place value and start to explore 3 digit numbers up to 1000.
PE will be on Monday and Friday. Please can you bring in a suitable P.E kit for both inside and outside and make sure it is in school at all times.
Please read with your child as much as you can. It is very important that children practice their reading at home. Children can earn certificates, bookmarks and books for the number of reading logs completed.
Homework will be set on a Friday and is due back the following Thursday. Please make sure your child completes their homework and hands it in on time.
I will be on the playground at the beginning and the end of the day if you have any questions.
