Welcome to Australia Class ...

It's SUMMER!! 

It's the countdown to the summer holidays... 7 week long term.

I hope we are going to keep working hard, keeping up our values and earn the marbles for extra Golden Time at the end of each week! We have some fun lessons lined up for our last weeks as year 1!

Our focus topic this half term is Dragons and Knights. We will be reading different books about dragons and knights, writing in different styles. We will be making a top trump game as well as using art in our English lessons. 

In maths we will be revisiting addition and subtraction, geometry - shapes, position and direction and measure. We will be using our maths books a lot as well as doing some more practical and independent learning too. 

 

Our other Topics will be:

- Science - Forces

- History - Flight

- RE - Holi

- Art - Pattern Printing

 

EXTRA INFORMATION:

 

- P.E DAY - is now MONDAY where we will be taught by a PE coach. Please make sure you have full kit and sensible shoes in on this day. NO EARRINGS IN ON P.E DAY PLEASE. Please start to bring in clothes suitable for outside

- We will be checking reading logs on a daily basis, keeping you up to date with stamps, certificates or bookmarks! Keep up the reading, let's see who can get a free book! You impressed us last term!

- Teddy words are now checked during guided reading. Miss H will take a group of children each day and help them work through them. They will therefore be changed once a week.

- On Friday's, homework will be due in and set for the following week. We will be keeping track of who completes it and even who has their books in school. You may win a prize at the end of the half term for all your hard work!

This half term is a short one, but we've still got lots of learning to do!

I hope we are going to have a fun term, keeping up our values and earn the marbles for extra Golden Time at the end of each week!

 

In English, our focus story will be The Three Billy Goats Gruff. We will be looking at lots of different versions of the story. We will be recounting the story, adapting it to our own version of the story, writing a troll fact file and much more. 

In Maths, we will be learning about measures of time and money before moving onto the recapping of our place value and number bonds. Where possible we will be linking our maths to The Three Billy Goats Gruff. 

Phonics will be very important this term, as we will be preparing for our Decoding Check in June. This requires children to blend and segment real and 'alien' (nonsense) words using their previous phonic knowledge. Please practise at home as much as possible using the phonics packs.

- Geography - Weather

- RE - Special Books

- Art - Clay Modelling

Our first Spring term was awesome, we were so pleased with how much you have all improved in your writing, maths, reading and phonics! We hope you are all pleased too! You have all definitely stepped up your work!

 

We must continue to demonstrate the School's Values; Determination, Teamwork, Aspiration, Respect, Welcoming and Achievement. I can't wait to give out even more of the special stickers for you Values Cards! Your cards are getting fuller and fuller each week! Well done!

 

I hope that this half term you carry on following 'Smart for School'. Please make sure that you have the correct uniform when coming to school. This means, jumper/cardigan, t-shirt, trousers and most importantly shoes (no trainers!!).

 

This half term our topic is 'Paws and Claws'!

We will be focusing on the well known story 'Where the Wild Things Are' for English. During our lessons, we will be: investigating the mysterious mess in our classroom, coming up with potential book names, creating a profile for our own Wild Thing, writing diaries as Max as well as loads more!

During Maths, we will be focusing on Measures, Multiplication and Division and Fractions (we will link this to shape).

 

Our other Topics will be:

- Science - Animals

- RE - Easter Story

- History - Technology Through the Ages

- Design & Technology/Art - Puppet making

 

We have a trip to Staunton Country Park on Friday 17th March. You have already recieved a letter detailing the trip. Remember to bring a packed lunch in a rucksack, have sensible shoes, a waterproof coat and water!

2017!

 

Happy New Year, and welcome back to school, we hope you had a fantastic Christmas and are ready to start learning again! 

 

Our Autumn term was fantastic, we were super impressed with how hard you all worked and some of the amazing things you all achieved.

We will be focusing on the traditional tale of Jack and the Beanstalk for English. During our lessons, we will be: re-writing, acting, creating and imagining! I can't wait to see the ideas you come up with!

During Maths, we will be focusing on Place Value and Addition & Subtraction. We will be linking these to Magic and Jack and the Beanstalk too!

- Science - Variation and Evolution in Plants

- RE - People Jesus Met

- Geography - Capitals within the UK and Country Comparison (Australia vs England)

Hello and welcome to Australia's class page! We hope you had a fab half term break and are ready for the exciting weeks in the run up to Christmas (it's nearly here already sad) ! 

 

This half term we welcome 3 new adults to the class! Mrs Biggs - the class teacher. Miss Humphries and Mrs Granshaw. We are all super excited to be joining Australia class and Mrs Biggs has been jazzing up the inside and outside learning areas to make an amazing environment for the class!! smiley

Miss Charlesworth will continue to join us on some mornings or afternoons throughout the week.

 

This half term we have 2 topics. For 4 weeks we are learning about Pirates, with our focus book in English being 'Captain Flinn and the Pirate Dinosaurs'. We will be doing a range of different writing activities including learning about a REAL LIFE PIRATE! angry
For the last 3 weeks we will be leanring about the Victorians, with our focus book in English being 'Queen Victoria's Knickers'. crying This will be a fun unit, with us creating some silly adverts for big knickers! (Did you know... people never used to wear them!!)

Throughout the half term we will be doing some:
- Science - Everyday Materials and Plants

- Geography - Continents, Oceans and Countries in the UK

- History - The Victorians

- Art - Mixing Colours and Drawing with Graded Pencils

- RE - Hanukkah and Advent

- DT - Victorian Cooking

- P4C - Right vs Wrong, Following Instructions.

- Friday 25th November is our exciting trip to the Victorian Christmas Market and the Historic Dockyard. An exciting opportunity to get to see a reenactment of the Victorian times in action.
